There has been a lot of rumour and hype surrounding RIM’s recently leaked details of a new handset that they are working on, a beefed up ‘3G’ Blackberry Curve. Initial reports were that this mobile phone was code named ‘Gemini’ and related to a device called the Blackberry 9300. However, in order to gain as much information about this new handset, I have been trawling the deep dark depths of the internet, to bring you as much relevant, up to date and accurate news as possible. Here is what I have found out.
The Blackberry 9300 is not a myth, however the specification for it might as well be. Those in the know have speculated that this device will look very similar to the Blackberry 8900 Curve, only silver in colour. Its screen will be larger and the resolution suspected higher than that of the Blackberry 8900s 2.4 inch TFT screen and 480x360 pixels. There are high hopes that this mysterious mobile will have an equally, if not more impressive processor than the Blackberry Bold 9000. Styling matters, and if it keeps up with that of the 8900 and Blackberry Storm it can’t go wrong. Rumours are that the keyboard will be slightly rounded off, with similar attention given to the send/end keys flat edges. Although not confirmed, it is expected to have Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and Tri band UMTS/HSDPA capabilities. Following along a similar theme, WI-FI® and GPS although not confirmed, are expected. Expectations continue to be high when it comes to the camera. It would seem nothing less than 3.2 mega pixels will do. Release dates for this mobile phone are speculated as late 2009, early 2010.
So we have the Blackberry 9300 as an eagerly awaited new edition to the family, but where does the name ‘Gemini’ come in? Well, it is apparently the codename for a completely different device, the Blackberry 8325. A not quite so eagerly anticipated handset when set alongside the 9300, this mobile phone is said to be a GSM/EDGE device, not a 3G smartphone. Suspected to be styled along the lines of the 8900, this phone only sports a 320x240 display accompanied by a 2 mega pixel camera. However it is expected to be the first RIM device to run the upcoming Blackberry OS 5.0, and will have a respectable Wi Fi 802.11b/g/n. September of this year is reportedly the release date for the ‘Gemini’, yet with the recent release of the 8900 Curve and the mysterious 9300 on the horizon, this may fall by the wayside. Blackberry official website is staying quiet where these two devices are concerned, so we shall all have to wait and see. Watch this space, as soon as we know more, so will you.

Sony Ericsson Aino, the long awaited PS3 phone with its large 3 inch touch screen and the ability to stream content from your PS3 wherever you are. Sony announced this device in May 2009 and is said to be “coming soon”. The exterior is found not to be outstanding nor does is have the wow factor. The Sony Ericsson Aino is available in obsidian black and luminous white colour choices. When the Sony Ericsson is in its closed position it has an unassuming look. Is this the phone of your dreams or does it leave you wanting more? The device is made that bit more tempting with its Remote Play Feature which was initially developed for PSP. The unfortunate thing is that this is not a real PSP phone as the user is not able to actually play games only allowing the user to turn the PS3 on and off using their Sony Ericsson Aino. The SE Aino has the ability to enable users to control and access media content on Playstation 3 just about anywhere from their phone. The bundled charging stand allows the Sony Ericsson Aino to connect automatically to a Playstation 3 gaming system. Users can access music, film, TV shows on their PSM via the Aino. Sony Ericsson have made the Aino that bit more tempting by including WI-FI® for both high speed internet connections and GPS. The large 3 inch display of the Sony Ericsson Aino is the first to sport a widescreen and touch screen display but the touch screen is only usable in the multimedia part of the menu and with the camera interface. There is an impressive 8 mega pixel camera with the usual benefits of 16x digital zoom, auto focus, flash, face detection and video record. The Aino includes stereo Bluetooth, A-GPS and an 8GB microSD™ card. Sony Ericsson have chosen to have a microSD™ card slot, does this mean the end of the memory stick? The Sony Ericsson Aino is the third phone from the company that has the touch screen feature, following the Xperia X1 and the Satio. The Sony Ericsson Aino draws its power from a 100 mAh Li-Po battery, giving 13 hours GSM talk time, 4 and a half hours 3G talk time, 380 hours GSM standby and 1.7 hours 3G video call time. The SE Aino weighs 134 grams and is 15.5 mm thick, so its fat as well as heavy.
Sony Ericsson Aino - Construction and Design
The Sony Ericsson Aino has the look of a full touch design and is rather compact. There are no keys on the front panel and has the slimness of other touch screen devices. There are touch screen functions but these are limited when using some multimedia parts of the menu. These functions have been seen before in the LG KF750 Secret. The fast port is on the left side and the volume rocker, (which doubles as a zoom lever) and the camera button are on the right side. The microphone pinhole and the loudspeaker grill are on the bottom of the device. On the top of the Sony Ericsson Aino handset is the lock key. The camera is located on the back of the device but is not protected with a lens cover. When the slider is fully opened you reveal a key pad and the Sony Ericsson Aino handset then becomes an incredibly long handset.
Sony Ericsson Aino - Applications
The touch screen capabilities of the Sony Ericsson Aino are limited to a new and specially designed multimedia menu. The user interface is Flash-based. The Aino at first glance looks like other Sony Ericsson phones of the past 24 months, and like the Sony Ericsson Yari the interface has had updates. The Sony Ericsson Aino is equipped with the latest Walkman player 3.0 as does the Sony Ericsson Yari. The FM radio has touch optimised user interface and is possibly the best amongst mobile FM receivers. The Aino Camera menu is operated by touch and according to press info the Aino should be able to take 8 mega pixel photos and capture VGA video at 30 fps. The interface is similar to other touch camera user interfaces like the Xperia X1 and G900. The Sony Ericsson Aino has an integrated GPS receiver that has the function of assisted start. Wayfinder is the navigation software that comes with the Aino and Google Maps™ 3.0 is also included.
The Sony Ericsson Aino has the same web browser as the Yari, an updated version of the NetFront 3.5 mobile browser. Web pages are accessed quicker and zoom levels are found to give comfortable reading. The NetFront 3.5 web browser operates in full screen mode with features such as mini-map, enter an address, favourites and downloads.
Sony Ericsson Aino - Summary
Overall we really like the Sony Ericsson Aino, with its compatibility with the PS3 it is bringing something different to the mobile phone market. But just because it has this feature the phone has not been compromised in other areas. It still has a decent camera and will let you browse the internet

With Auto-Focus and a Flash the user is sure to capture bright and clear snap shots where ever their photos are taken. The dedicated camera enables the user quick and easy access to the camera function and take a snap shot in seconds.

LG KM900 Arena Review – Music & Sound
For chilling out or just pure entertainment the user can enjoy the built-in music player system on the very elegant and stylish LG KM900 Arena mobile phone. MP3 and AAC are the supported music file formats along with an integrated FM Radio enabling the user to stay up to speed with all the latest news, travel and weather information as well as listening to their favourite radio stations and DJ's. Now with the stunning good looks of the Arena its user is going to want to their LG Arena to sound good too and the way to do is this is by adding a cool ring-tone. The user can choose from the selection of MP3 and Polyphonic ring-tones available on their handset. There is a massive 8 gigabytes of on board on the Arena plus a MicroSD memory card support of up to a huge 16 gigabytes. This will increase the memory capacity massively enabling the user to store all their music files, photo's, downloads and video clips without worrying about how much memory is being chewed.
LG KM900 Arena Review – Internet & Connectivity
Accessing the internet from our mobile phones these days has fast become a huge trend and the LG Arena will not disappoint in this area of technology. Connecting to the net is straight forward and a speedy process thanks to the built-in WAP XHTML and HTML web browsing technologies. The 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi, EDGE and GPRS on board technologies all offer great connections a superb, speedy and fantastic quality of services with regards to transfer rates to which the user can greatly benefit. For supported networks the LG Arena operates on a Tri-band network which covers GSM-900/1800/1900 & HSDPA-2100 which enables the user the full access of their handset whilst abroad vis the roaming facility. Connecting to other compatible devices is easy with the Bluetooth and USB available technologies.
LG KM900 Arena Review – Messaging Services
Staying in contact with others is very important and with busy lifestyles these days we often feel we don't have the time to sit on the phone, but with a message it can be sent at anytime from anywhere which is very convenient. The messaging services that Arena offers include SMS, MMS (multi-media messaging), Instant messaging and Emailing, all of which are a fast and fun way to any message across in no time.
LG KM900 Arena Review – Gaming & Applications
To keep boredom from raising its head why not check out the Java games available on the Arena mobile phone. If none of the games are suitable or to the users required taste then the Downloadable gaming options is there for the user to cater to their individual gaming taste. We do say please check before using this particular service as there may be a small cost involved, so do look out for that.
Application tools are those very handy features that we can often call upon for some assistance and the LG Arena offers a Document Viewer, Alarm Clock, Stop-Watch, Calculator and a Calendar for the users required needs.
LG KM 900 Arena Review – Summary
In terms of beauty alone we stand to give the LG KM900 Arena full marks and of course for user friendly touch screen abilities. What gives the Arena an edge is that fact it is sporting a 5 mega-pixel camera function, but the lack of music and sound technologies is a little disappointing. To be competitive we expect a little more, yes not everybody is a music lover out there who requires the best in terms of high tech music capabilities but a little more would have been more impressive. But having said all that overall the LG KM900 Arena mobile phone is a real stunner that may give the illusion it is a complicated handset to operate, but it really isn't, so for pure elegance and style and the no fuss of high spec techs then the LG Arena is most definitely worth checking out.

Nokia Surge

Posted by yaso 0 comments

Nokia just previewed its new smart phone called the Nokia Surge. Announced in July 2009, this latest device from Nokia will be available exclusively for the AT&T Wireless subscribers. As per the reports, Nokia Surge will be the only version of the phone and there will not be any unlocked version such as the same handsets with different model number like nokia-e71 and nokia e71x. In the past one year, Surge is going to be the 3rd smart phone for AT&T by Nokia. The other devices were nokia e71x and Nokia 6650. By doing this, Nokia is definitely eyeing a change in their business strategy and trying to capture more shares in the market.
google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);
Nokia Surge 6790 - The look of Nokia Surge
Compared to
Nokia E72, this time Nokia is trying to lure younger generation more with Surge. That is why Nokia has incorporated state of the art design and immaculate features to capture the attention of the youths that holds the largest share of mobile phone purchasers. Nokia Surge is slim, thin, short and gorgeous. Going by the looks, as it was displayed during the announcement, everyone would love to Surge as the latest and wicked device in the town. The entire casing of Nokia Surge is almost done by black gloss plastic that build up fingerprints like wild. The dimensions of Nokia Surge will be 97.5 by 57.9 by 15.5 millimeters, 78.5 cc and its weight is going to be 123.9 grams. Though it seems that Surge will be quite a heavy set but those who took the phone on their hands during the announcement, most of them where surprised as it was not that weighty as expected.
Nokia Surge Review - The Slider
Nokia Surge is going to be a slider phone but it will not slide upwards like the other slider phones. Surge will be sliding sidewise from left to right. This design is quite unique and attractive too. Once the phone is slide out, the QWERTY keyboard appears. The orientation of this phone is horizontal so the user needs to turn the device after sliding, to use the QWERTY keyboard. In order to use the keyboard, Surge is to be hold in such a way that the logo of Nokia and AT&T appears straight. Some people found this look interesting while for some people it was quite weird. The look is quite flat and square but in spite of that Nokia Surge is able to maintain its charm. There was mixed response considering the square-like keys, flat appearance and side wise movement, but the slide mechanism was quite smooth.
Nokia 6790 - The Keys
Unlike Sony Erickson and several other models, Nokia always maintained different keys for ending calls and switching off the phone. But with Surge, Nokia made an exception. Nokia Surge is going to feature a single key as the End button and the power key. There is a five way control pad in Surge and it was quite small and hard too. Though, it can be adjusted as per the requirements. There are numerous buttons that decorate the sides of the device such as a shortcut key for messaging. By accessing this key, the user can directly get into the messaging mode of the phone. The accelerometer provided by Nokia Surge is a great move considering the fact that most horizontal sliding phones rotate the screen only when the keyboard is slide out. Now, let’s see what the screen of Nokia Surge has to offer. Surge will be providing TFT display with sixteen million colors. The QVGA screen is quite sharp as well as dazzling. However, there is a bit of let down from Nokia Surge as the resolution of 320 pixels by 240 pixels along with the simple graphics on the menu looked amateurish when compared with similar set of handsets such as blackberry bold and iphone-3gs.
Nokia 6790 Surge - Other vital features
Nokia Surge is expected to support TeleNav-powered AT&T Navigator as it is going to be an exclusive AT&T device. This is one step ahead software from the proprietary GPS software of Nokia, which is quite confusing. One example of handset with such software is
Nokia N78 that came a year back. Other vital features of Nokia Surge are standard-issue Mini Map browser and CV for streamed videos. Nokia Surge is going to run on Symbian Operating System that is S60 rel. 3.2. Browser features available in Nokia Surge include HTML, xHTML and WAP 2.0. The device will support A-GPS support and AT&T. It will be also equipped with Java™ MIDP 2.1 along with Quickoffice and PDF Reader. Thus, the phone can be used for official purposes quite effortlessly too.

TOKYO, JAPAN, --- NTT DOCOMO announced it has developed the mobile phone prototype made with the surplus wood of trees culled during thinning operations to maintain healthy forests. The prototype was created in collaboration with Sharp Corporation, Olympus Corporation and "more trees," a reforestation project founded by musician Ryuichi Sakamoto and others. The authentic cypress wood body of the prototype, which is named TOUCH WOOD, features excellent durability and resistance to water, insects and mildew thanks to special three-dimensional compression molding developed by Olympus Corporation. Conventional natural wood is not suitable for use as mobile phone bodies because they tend to wear out quickly. Each TOUCH WOOD handset features its own distinctive grain patterns and natural coloring. No artificial colors or paints are used, so the cypress retains its original natural appearance and aroma. The wood also has an attractive shine that is created during the compression process. The TOUCH WOOD is made from the surplus wood of trees culled during forest-thinning operations. This new commercial use for thinned wood, which traditionally has only limited applications, helps to preserve other wood resources while strengthening the health of overgrown forests. So far, TOUCH WOOD production has used wood culled from the Shimanto forest in Japan's Kochi Prefecture. The forest is managed by the more trees project. The prototype phone's graphical user interface (GUI) is based on the photographic art of Mikiya Takimoto, a more trees advocate.A mockup of the TOUCH WOOD handset will be exhibited at ITU Telecom World 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland from October 5 to 9 and CEATEC JAPAN 2009 at Makuhari Messe, Chiba Prefecture, Japan from October 6 to 10.TOUCH WOOD mockup featuring ergonomic design(exhibited at ITU Telecom World 2009 and CEATEC JAPAN 2009)TOUCH WOOD prototype based on existing SH-04A model(exhibited at CEATEC JAPAN 2009)About NTT DOCOMONTT DOCOMO is the world's leading mobile operator and provider of advanced mobile services. The network has information about the new entry-level mobile phone Motorola WX395. This one-piece with a small display and numeric keypad, it differs quite simple, although not the most minimal features. In particular, it has no support for third-generation cellular networks, the camera is low resolution and a small amount of internal memory. But there is support for microSD and Bluetooth. Besides Motorola WX395 in the line of low-cost phones Motorola WX will model WX160, WX180, WX260, WX280, WX288, WX390, detailed information about them yet. Features Motorola WX395: • Cellular: GSM / GPRS (900/1800 MHz) • Display: 1.8-inch, CSTN, 65K colors to • Internal memory: 2 MB • microSD-slot • Camera: 1,3 Mp • MP3-player • Communication: Bluetooth 2.0, miniUSB-port

The Samsung W880 AMOLED 12M didn't need an awful long time to convince us that it's the most complete photography tool among the mobile phones. Combining optical zoom with splendid image and video quality has certainly resulted in something way beyond the powers of its competitors. It's almost unquestionable that the handset will become immensely popular and get iconic status once it gets released outside Korea. The touch experience that Samsung are providing recently is pretty good and we don't see any reason for the handset not to become a dream device for every self-respecting geek.Combined with the proper pricing it might also cash in on its popularity as it will convince quite a lot of people to leave their point-and-shoot cameras at home next time they're out and about.
